Measuring Productivity
你有正确的理解 生产力 ?这又是一个职业发展的陷阱,很多职业专家遭遇 不幸 ,在小时间与常见的概念、生产力超越完成许多事情。
We all strive for productivity. Success seekers in the recruitment in Singapore work world are very aware of the fact that every opportunity is precious in this country. The competition for things like Singapore jobs and corporate advancements is tight. Every single time, you have to show that you re worth the keep (to the boss) or worth the risk (to the recruiters). You have to display your productivity prowess at every given opportunity. For professionals, this means that they have to pass their reports/ pending tasks and proposals on time. For jobseekers, this means that they have to display resilience against job search blues and the temptation to indulge on a run-off-the-mill approach in making job applications. It doesn t sound easy, we know. Who says that achieving productivity is a walk in the park activity, anyway? It s not. But do you have the correct understanding of the word productivity ? This is another career advancement trap that many career professionals unfortunately fall in. Contrary to common notion, productivity goes beyond accomplishing many things in little time. Rather, productivity is making the most of your time at work, acing presentations or submitting A+ proposals. That s the kind of productivity that we re talking about. Acing a presentation or two in a single work day is a more productive act than presenting satisfactorily to 7 or more bosses. It s not just about the numbers; it s also about making your co-workers happy and your boss even happier. To measure productivity is not just to measure the number of presentations you were able to deliver or the number of proposals you were able to pass in a single day. To measure productivity is to also have those noted but with emphasis on the quality of the deliverables. You cannot declare a day as productive if you ve failed to make your boss smile or if you ve failed to REALLY close a pending task or case. Productivity is about minding the quality of your outputs every single time. The question of a lot of career professionals is this: How do we become productive by this definition? As hard as this endeavor seems to sound, it s not. We hope that this checklist can help you to achieve the correct kind of productivity: 1) Learn to check and re-check. One draft is not enough, regardless of document type. Whether it s a powerpoint presentation or a report with computations, you have to learn how to check before you send. Then check it again after the first checking. 2) Learn to get others involved. Revisions are easy when you ask for other people s help on spotting things that need corrections. 3) Learn how to give clear updates. When somebody is following up on you about a pending task that you re in charge of finishing, make sure you reply to him with a clear status report. Do not beat around the bush. These are just examples of things that you can do to improve your position vis-a-vis the correct kind of productivity. Would you like to share your own tips?
