Executive Employers Finds Startups Recruiting Part-Time Executives

For entrepreneurs and startups, one of the most challenging problems of taking their company to the next level often lies in the absence of proven leadership. The intrinsic value of C-level executives for an organization is unquestionable, but the cost of bringing that level of talent onboard is often out of reach, particularly if you have multiple positions that you d (ideally) like to fill. Until your company has matured enough to have garnered a sizeable revenue strem or has been successful in raising significant venture capital, having the roughly $1 million required to fill a C-suite is unlikely. But that doesn t mean that you need to operate without that level of talent. Other options exist, including bringing in generalists who can provide multiple roles or limiting the title and related compensation to a more modest vice presidential level. Or, you can follow one of the latest startup trends and hire executives who are only looking for part-time responsibilities. According to George Deeb, Managing Partner at Red Rocket Ventures, there are a number of senior executives who have been downsized out of their positions, or who are simply looking for the challenge of assisting a new venture and watching it emerge and grow, who are looking for positions that offer them the opportunity to spread their wisdom without being tied down to one particular situation. They often are seeking positions that are simply one day a week, and may actually be offering their services in this way to multiple companies, thus providing themselves with full time income but only part-time responsibility and stress. In most situations these highly-skilled professionals are accepting salaries that represent approximately fifteen to twenty percent of what they would be paid as a full time C-level executive, along with small equity stakes in each of the companies for whom they re working. Many of the executives are women who are looking for a way to maintain their professional interests and reputations but who are looking for a different work-life balance. Still others are willing to take on these part-time positions with the understanding that as the company grows and becomes more financially stable their responsibilities will expand until they grow into a full time C-level position. This solution provides a number of attractive perks for the executive as well as for the business, which gets the advantage of elite expertise without having to pay the costs of health insurance and other traditional executive perks. According to Jessica Jones, Director of Recruitment for Executive Employers, their innovative recruiting firm is hearing more and more requests for these part-time executive positions both from the executives who join their networking platform and from the companies seeking their services to find executive-level talent. The company provides C-level professionals to companies ranging from startups to Fortune 1000 companies, as well as filling Board of Director positions, another area of interest to the executives seeking their services. It is also worth noting that part-time executives are also being sought by some of the country s best-known companies, who recognize that part-time leaders bring full time qualities and talents. There are a number of notables who have shifted themselves into these types of positions, including Lea Paterson of Bank of England. When asked about the special skills required to work as a part time executive, she notes, To be a good boss you need to be able to delegate, to recruit good staff, and to trust them to get on and do the work without checking on them every minute. When you re part-time, you re forced to do this anyway. Entrepreneurs who are uncertain about the wisdom of this method of meeting their leadership needs may take comfort in noting that such highly-esteemed organizations as Bain Company, City, Accenture, IBM, Google and Citi are all becoming more and more involved in working with part-time senior-level executives. As technology broadens executives abilities to serve multiple corporations and the remote office becomes more and more tenable for a variety of organizations, it is likely that a greater number of organizations will find this an attractive option, and the same is likely for the talent that they are seeking. 管理新知 您可能感兴趣的文章 新员工的三个突然死亡期,你知道吗?
